At Dean, one of the many ways we help our Bulldogs build skills for work and for life is the BUILD Conference. The BUILD Conference, which stands for “Bulldogs Understand the Importance of Learning & Development,” is a campus-wide collaborative effort to provide student-centered programming that addresses the College’s learning goals. Departments from across campus, including athletics, advising, student activities, the Morton Family Learning Center, residence life and more, come together to hold workshops and informational activities for students to develop their skills, learn about College resources and prepare for life after Dean.

“The conference is designed to develop students’ competency of the all-College learning goals through workshop-style presentations taught by various student success staff members from different departments on campus,” explained Liz Gallardo, Assistant Director of Career Planning & Internships and a Success & Career Advisor. “The goal of the event is to provide a fun environment for students to learn, discover and take advantage of the resources Dean has to offer – in one convenient location.”

The first BUILD Conference of the semester kicks off today on the topics of effective communication and teamwork and features four 20-minute workshops: Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork, Events 101, Making Your Voice Heard, and Conflict Management. In addition, tabling will occur simultaneously and provide a variety of information on student resources, including study tips, counseling, learning support, accessibility in the workplace, peer advisor info, how to get involved on campus and more. Students will also have the chance to enter a raffle to win prizes.

The BUILD Conference takes place today, October 5, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Dr. Paula M. Rooney Student Center. Workshop sessions will be held upstairs in the Golder Room, while tabling will take place on the concourse.

Join your fellow classmates to build your skills on teamwork and communication, and stay tuned for November’s BUILD Conference on global and intercultural fluency, critical thinking and creative problem solving.
